Minnesota Gubernatorial Candidate Amy Klobuchar Vows Day-One Audit of State Government; GOP Rival Lisa Demuth Blasts Walz Ties

U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar, who is running for governor of Minnesota, unveiled a plan at a news conference in St. Paul, Ramsey County, Minnesota, on November 1, pledging that on day one she will begin a top-to-bottom audit of state government to identify waste, fraud and abuse across state agencies, alongside a series of anti-fraud measures.

Klobuchar said the proposal is aimed at transforming state government into a more accountable and efficient system, drawing a contrast with Governor Tim Walz's administration, which has been mired in controversy over fraud scandals in state-run programs, including federal investigations and FBI raids targeting more than 20 childcare centers. 'I don't like the status quo. I wouldn't be running for governor if I wanted to have things remain the same,' she said.

Republican gubernatorial candidate and state House Speaker Lisa Demuth blasted the proposal in a statement posted online, arguing that four terms of Democratic control of the executive branch have doubled the state budget, raised taxes by billions and enabled a culture of fraud, and that Klobuchar wants to continue the Walz era. The governor's seat is open because Walz is not seeking re-election; the election is on November 3.
