Monday, November 2, 2026 · States · GSM News

The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services announced in Raleigh, Wake County, on November 2 the launch of a Rural Health Transformation Program dashboard listing all Year 1 funded projects, the counties served, the amounts committed and brief descriptions of the work. The announcement followed an initial $100 million Year 2 award to North Carolina from the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, with additional funding to follow; the state received more than $213 million in Year 1.

The department said North Carolina obligated all of its Year 1 federal funds and recently released its Year 1 annual report. First-year work included establishing regional program centers in six regions statewide; expanding behavioral health services and telehealth treatment, including support for young people experiencing first-episode psychosis; funding expanded school-based health centers; and bringing an evidence-based diabetes prevention program to 18 southeastern counties.

The program aims to improve health care in rural communities, help people get better care and keep rural health services running. Funding opportunities are listed on the department's website.
