Connecticut Governor Lamont Swats Reporter's Phone at Campaign Event; Reporter Unlikely to Seek Charges

Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont swatted away a reporter's phone during a campaign event on the morning of October 31 at Scalzi Park in Stamford, Fairfield County, an incident that continued to draw attention over the following two days.
Jackie Homan, who identified herself as a reporter for a local conservative outlet, had been filming and asked about a traffic citation issued two weeks earlier to Lamont adviser Rob Blanchard, who was cited for failing to obey an officer directing traffic in a construction zone; no one was injured. Homan said on November 1 that she is unlikely to seek criminal charges over the incident.
The campaign of Lamont's opponent, Ryan Fazio, alleged that the governor's conduct amounts to a Class C misdemeanor under Connecticut law, but no charge has been filed. Blanchard is himself the Democratic candidate in a battleground state Senate district while also serving as a Lamont adviser.
Homan's outlet said it did not coordinate the questioning with her. The episode came during campaigning on the final weekend before the November 3 election.
