Michigan State Fraternity Suspended Pending Investigation After Video Alleging Drug Use

Monday, November 2, 2026 · States · GSM News

Michigan State University confirmed on November 2 that one of its fraternities is under investigation and has been placed on interim suspension over "deeply concerning" inappropriate behavior, at its campus in East Lansing, Ingham County.

President Kevin Guskiewicz said the university has opened an investigation into the student organization. University spokesperson Emily Guerrant told reporters that factors behind the investigation include a video posted on X on October 30 that appears to show fraternity members engaged in alleged illegal drug use. Officials are working to determine whether the video is recent.

The organization is the Michigan Gamma chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. According to the university's fraternity and sorority life chapter status records, the investigation began November 1, and the interim suspension bars the chapter from participating in or hosting any activities during the inquiry.

The fraternity's national headquarters has also ordered the chapter to cease all operations, including social gatherings, recruitment, activities and member education, until further notice, and said the chapter is cooperating fully with both reviews. In its statement, the national organization said an initial review indicates four members in the video allegedly glorified illegal drug use, and that the video is believed to have been recorded more than a year ago; the four suspected members have been suspended. Neither the university nor the headquarters has given a timeline for completing the investigations.
