70 New Jersey Landmarks Light Up Teal to Open Alzheimer's Awareness Month

Seventy landmarks across New Jersey lit up in teal on the night of November 2 to open Alzheimer's Awareness Month. The Alzheimer's Foundation of America said the lighting is part of its annual 'Light the World in Teal' program and the largest illumination event ever organized for a single cause. New Jersey's 70 sites joined 1,680 others worldwide, across all 50 states and 17 countries, in support of people affected by the disease.
Participating New Jersey sites include the Ferris wheels in Seaside Heights and Wildwood, the dome of the State House in Trenton, Mercer County, Atlantic City casinos, municipal halls in Midland Park and Elizabeth, and the Benjamin Franklin Bridge, the century-old span linking Camden with Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, over the Delaware River. Teal is the foundation's official color; the foundation is a Manhattan-based nonprofit that educates the public about Alzheimer's disease and raises money for medical research.
The foundation said more than 7 million people in the United States, including about 185,000 in New Jersey, live with Alzheimer's, and the national figure is projected to double in the next 35 years. Foundation President and CEO Charles Fuschillo Jr. said every site helps make Alzheimer's more visible and encourages understanding and support for the millions of affected families. The full roster of participating sites is available on the program's website.
