West Virginia Early Voting Reaches 162,349 Ballots, Up 24% From the 2022 Midterms

West Virginia Secretary of State Kris Warner reported on November 2 in Charleston, Kanawha County, that early voting in the state rose sharply from the last midterm election. According to the secretary of state's office, county clerks reported a total of 162,349 voters casting ballots during the early voting period from October 21 through October 31, 24% higher than the 131,404 early votes in the November 2022 midterm general election.
By party, early voting rose 19% among Democrats, 28% among Republicans and 31% among unaffiliated voters compared with 2022. As of the last day of early voting, October 31, total ballots cast stood at 169,350, including 7,001 returned absentee ballots, representing nearly 14% of the state's 1,210,297 registered voters.
This is Warner's first statewide general election as the state's chief elections official. He attributed the rise in turnout to how easy it has become to register to vote in West Virginia, and said voters can continue voting on Tuesday, November 3, between 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., with anyone in line by 7:30 p.m. guaranteed the opportunity to vote.
