Red's Place, a 60-Year Chinatown Bar in San Francisco, to Close at Year's End as Repairs Near $500,000

In Chinatown, San Francisco, San Francisco County, California, Red's Place, which bills itself as the oldest bar in the neighborhood, will close at the end of this year after 60 years in business.
Owner Jerry Chan said the closure stems from rising operating costs and an estimated $500,000 in repairs the building needs.
The news came in a November 2 report on a wave of Bay Area food and drink closures: Cook's Seafood, a Bay Area institution of nearly a century, abruptly closed both its locations last week. Its original Menlo Park shop had sold seafood since 1928 and was known for fish and chips, catfish and salmon; its second location was in Pleasanton. In September, another Menlo Park restaurant of 45 years also closed.
The report noted that an economic boom driven by super intelligence (SI) has raised the bar for survival, putting financial pressure on a string of longtime Bay Area businesses. With Red's Place closing, San Francisco's Chinatown loses another decades-old community landmark.
