Messi Assist and Late Winner Lift Inter Miami Past New England 2-1 Into the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup

Inter Miami CF of Miami, Miami-Dade County, Florida, rallied for a 2-1 road win over the New England Revolution on the night of November 1, clinching a spot in the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup. The match was played at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, before 54,112 fans.
According to MLSSoccer.com, Lionel Messi first set up Germán Berterame with a no-look, backwards header for the 69th-minute equalizer and then scored the late winner to complete the comeback. Berterame said afterward that the players around him create the expectation of always winning. Head coach Cristian 'Kily' González said he has no doubts Messi is the best of them all.
The win also put Miami in the driver's seat for the Eastern Conference's No. 2 seed ahead of the playoffs, with a Decision Day match against Charlotte FC coming on Saturday, November 7. Messi now has 26 goals and 16 assists this season, in pole position for a historic third straight Landon Donovan MLS MVP award and a second consecutive Golden Boot; in six career matches against New England he has five multi-goal-contribution games, totaling eight goals and six assists.
