Doorstep Hard-to-Recycle Pickup Expands to Charlotte as The ReCollective Opens Signups

Monday, November 2, 2026 · Life · GSM News

The ReCollective, a recycling and reuse service headquartered in Durham, North Carolina, announced on November 2 that signups are open for its expansion into Charlotte, in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.

According to the company's announcement via EIN Presswire, the service collects hard-to-recycle materials monthly from residents' doorsteps — items that typically cannot go into curbside bins, including plastic film, crinkly packaging, textiles, Styrofoam, batteries and light bulbs. Members fill labeled, reusable bags and place them outside their homes; the company handles collection, sorting and delivery to specialized recycling and reuse partners. The initial Charlotte service area includes ZIP codes 28203, 28204, 28205, 28207, 28209 and portions of 28211; service begins once 50 households have signed up, and billing starts only when collection starts.

Founded in September 2022 with just 40 households in North Carolina's Triangle region, The ReCollective now serves more than 1,000 households in Durham, Raleigh and surrounding communities, and collected more than 112,000 pounds of hard-to-recycle materials in 2025 alone. In its existing operations, 90 percent of collected materials go to partners within 100 miles of its Durham warehouse, the company said.
