USDA Awards Rural Business Development Grants to Seven Nevada Organizations Totaling Nearly $360,000

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development office in Nevada announced in Carson City on November 2 that seven Nevada organizations will receive fiscal year 2026 Rural Business Development Grant awards totaling $359,385, supporting small business growth, historic preservation and economic revitalization across rural Nevada. The recipients are spread across Douglas, Lincoln, Nye and other counties.
"These investments strengthen local economies, support homegrown entrepreneurs, and help preserve the character of rural Nevada," said Nevada State Director Alida Ceballos. "USDA is committed to ensuring rural communities have the tools they need, whether that's business training, capital, or infrastructure improvements."
The three largest awards are: $97,908 to Indian Dispute Resolution Services, whose State of Nevada Native Microenterprise Development Project expands training and technical assistance for rural Native entrepreneurs with on-reservation support; $90,000 to the Nye County Regional Economic Development Authority to strengthen its regional Revolving Loan Fund, providing capital for rural entrepreneurs in distressed areas such as Esmeralda County; and $74,500 to Main Street Gardnerville to develop a Downtown Economic Activation Plan fostering small business growth, jobs and long-term vitality in Gardnerville, Douglas County.
The remaining four awards are: $45,000 to the City of Caliente to complete the refurbishment and adaptive reuse of the historic Caliente Railroad Depot in Lincoln County by 2027; $29,977 to Friends of Gem Theater to install a fire alarm system in the historic theater; $20,000 to the Nevada Governor's Office of Economic Development for the Nevada Rural Economic and Community Development Summit; and $2,000 to the Carson Valley Arts Council to stabilize the historic Copeland Lumber Building as a step toward converting it into a community maker's space.
The Rural Business Development Grant program is a standing USDA Rural Development program. USDA said the FY 2026 awards help small and emerging private businesses overcome barriers such as limited infrastructure, geographic isolation and scarce financial resources, supporting locally driven economic development statewide.
