The Palm Springs International Film Awards announced on November 2 that actor Inde Navarrette will receive the Rising Star Award for her performance in the horror film "Obsession." The awards ceremony will take place on January 7, 2027, at the Palm Springs Convention Center in Palm Springs, Riverside County, California, on the opening day of the 12-day Palm Springs International Film Festival, which runs through January 18.

"Obsession" was written, edited and directed by Curry Barker. Michael Johnston plays Bear, a shy romantic who breaks a mysterious One Wish Willow so that his crush, Nikki, played by Navarrette, falls in love with him, only to discover that the wish comes at a dark, sinister price. The film also stars Megan Lawless, Cooper Tomlinson and Andy Richter, has grossed more than half a billion dollars worldwide this year, and recently earned a Gotham Audience Award nomination.

"Inde Navarrette delivers a performance in 'Obsession' that is impossible to look away from," Festival Chairman Nachhattar Singh Chandi said in a statement. "She brings a rare combination of emotional awareness and cinematic presence to the screen. The Rising Star Award exists to celebrate exactly this kind of breakthrough talent, and we could not be more excited to welcome Inde to Palm Springs."

Past recipients of the Rising Star Award include Ariana Grande ("Wicked"), Timothée Chalamet ("Call Me by Your Name"), Alicia Vikander ("The Danish Girl"), Jennifer Lawrence ("Winter's Bone"), Anna Kendrick ("Up in the Air") and Scarlett Johansson ("Lost in Translation"). Navarrette joins this year's previously announced honorees, the cast of "The Invite" — Seth Rogen, Olivia Wilde, Penélope Cruz and Edward Norton — who will receive the Vanguard Award.

Navarrette first drew attention in the final season of Netflix's "13 Reasons Why," went on to a series-regular role on The CW's "Superman & Lois," and made her Sundance debut in 2020 opposite Sienna Miller and Diego Luna in "Wander Darkly." She will next play Rogue in Marvel's upcoming X-Men film, and will star in and executive-produce the Apple Original Film and Plan B Entertainment sci-fi thriller "The Waffle House Index." This year's Film Awards are presented by Kering and sponsored by Entertainment Tonight and Soho House, with Cadillac as the official vehicle.
