MacArthur Park Launches Free Year-Round Arts Programming in Los Angeles

Friday, October 30, 2026 · City · GSM News

The City of Los Angeles announced on October 30 that MacArthur Park, in the Westlake neighborhood of Los Angeles, Los Angeles County, California, has launched free, year-round arts and cultural programming: the park's historic Bandshell will host cultural celebrations, creative workshops and community events throughout the year, turning the park into a hub for arts, culture and community connection.

The initiative is a partnership between the Office of Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez, the City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, and the California Community Foundation. The city says the programming, from large-scale cultural events to intimate hands-on workshops, will give residents of all ages opportunities to experience the arts, express their creativity and connect with their neighbors.

Under the partnership, Music, Arts & Community Los Angeles (MAC LA, formerly Levitt Pavilion Los Angeles) will produce and manage a calendar running from September 2026 through September 2027 at the Bandshell: free live concerts, visual arts exhibitions and interactive community art experiences, Native American and Maya Indigenous cultural programming, arts education and entertainment industry workshops, and family-friendly community festivals. The year-long program is supported by a $250,000 investment, $150,000 from Council District 1 and $100,000 from the California Community Foundation. MAC LA will also oversee artist recruitment, event production, community outreach, multilingual marketing and public safety planning, and will create a Community Advisory Board so local voices help shape the programming.

The program kicked off on the evening of October 20 with "A Night at the Bandshell," a free community open house featuring a live performance by Boleros With Attitude, a project blending hip-hop with traditional boleros, and a backstage photography exhibition. The city says the initiative reflects an ongoing commitment to revitalizing MacArthur Park through community investment, meaningful partnerships and accessible public programming, keeping the park a welcoming space where arts, culture and community thrive.
