U.S. Citizen Fined $5,000 After Entering Between Ports of Entry, Arrested on Felony Warrant

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced on November 2 that Border Patrol agents assigned to the San Diego Sector encountered a U.S. citizen who had entered the United States between designated ports of entry near Mine Canyon, in San Diego County, California, on October 15. The individual was assessed a $5,000 civil penalty and was arrested after agents found an outstanding felony warrant.
CBP's release summary did not publish the person's name, the charge underlying the warrant, or how the case was referred afterward.
Entering the United States between ports of entry is an unlawful entry subject to civil penalties, and is among the violations Border Patrol agents routinely enforce along the San Diego Sector's border corridor.
