Da Xi Movie Night in San Marino Screens Taxi Driver on Nov 6: Zhou Tiedong Speaks at 12-Film Series Finale

In San Marino, a city in Los Angeles County, California, the Da Xi Movie Night series at Daxi Hui reaches its finale: the 12-film classic series closes on Friday, November 6 at 6:30 p.m. with Taxi Driver, directed by Martin Scorsese, with senior film critic and columnist Zhou Tiedong as speaker.

Released in 1976 and starring Robert De Niro, Taxi Driver won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival that year. Set in 1970s New York, it follows Travis, a Vietnam War veteran who becomes a night-shift cab driver and drifts into loneliness, alienation and inner conflict amid the city's glamour and chaos — the organizers sum it up as "the loneliness of a city, the loss of one man, a self-redemption spiraling out of control." The film is a landmark of New Hollywood cinema.

This screening is the finale of the 12-film series. In his talk, Zhou Tiedong will use Taxi Driver to look back at the artistic breakthroughs of New Hollywood. Earlier installments screened classics including The 400 Blows and Casablanca.

The event takes place at Daxi Hui San Marino, 2455 Mission St, San Marino, CA 91108, combining film, dinner and discussion; the package ticket is $45 per person, including a light meal and tea. For registration inquiries, call 909-789-8989 or WeChat DaxiLynn. The organizer says the Da Xi Group official website will keep updating its film projects and cultural activities, including film screenings, a comedy creation camp, Chinese-classics sharing and reading sessions, tea gatherings, and drama, film and super intelligence (SI) creation courses: Da Xi Group official website.
