Toddler Killed at Sacramento Cemetery During Family Graveside Visit; Suspected DUI Driver Arrested

Sacramento, Sacramento County, California — Sacramento police said a one-year-old girl was killed on Sunday, November 1, shortly before 5 p.m., when a suspected drunk driver struck her at St. Mary Cemetery, where her family was visiting her grandmother's gravesite for Día de los Muertos.
Police said Janessa Milagro and her father were injured at the scene; the girl later died at a hospital, while her father remained in intensive care. The family said they had recently celebrated her first birthday. The driver, Miguel Guzman, 50, was arrested and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on charges including gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, with bail set at $470,000 and a court appearance scheduled for Tuesday afternoon, November 3. Investigators are treating the crash as a hit-and-run investigation, and the case remains open.
By Tuesday morning the family's fundraiser for funeral and medical costs had raised more than $19,000 toward a $35,000 goal. The tragedy, on a day of remembrance, renewed warnings against driving after drinking.
