Follow-Up: Southwest Colorado Flooding Damages Highway 151 Again as National Guard Deploys

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · States · GSM News

Flood response in southwest Colorado continues, and the state's Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management issued a November 3 update from the State Emergency Operations Center in the Pagosa Springs area of Archuleta County: the center has moved to a Level 1 response, multiple state agencies are supporting local flood response, the Colorado National Guard has been approved and is deploying to the area, and the state recovery task force has been activated.

The update said Highway 151 south of Chimney Rock was damaged again when floodwaters washed out another segment of roadway on November 1, near milepost 30, about four miles south of the U.S. 160 junction; crews already on site are continuing emergency repairs and addressing the new damage. The southwest Colorado flooding began on October 23, Governor Jared Polis requested a federal major disaster declaration on October 31, and 12 counties have been affected. State officials reminded residents that flood warnings remain in effect in parts of the southwest, and urged drivers to check road conditions through the Colorado Department of Transportation's COTrip.org before traveling and never to drive through flooded roadways.
