No. 1 Florida Beats No. 14 Miami 77-67 in Season Opener in Tampa
On the night of November 2, No. 1 Florida beat No. 14 Miami 77-67 at Benchmark International Arena in Tampa, Hillsborough County, Florida, in the season opener for both programs.
Thomas Haugh led Florida with 19 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double, adding four assists, two steals and a block, while Rueben Chinyelu had six points and 14 rebounds. For Miami, Villanova transfer Acaden Lewis scored a game-high 24 points in his Hurricanes debut. Florida seized control with a 9-0 run late in the first half; Miami cut the lead to 53-51 early in the second half before Florida's defense restored the cushion.
The physical in-state rivalry game featured two technical fouls and three fouls upgraded to flagrants. Florida next hosts Jacksonville on November 5, and Miami hosts Wagner on November 6.
