Alabama Picks a New Governor and a U.S. Senator: Tuberville Faces Jones as Polls Stay Open Until 7 p.m.

Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · States · GSM News

Alabama's general election voting began on November 3, with polls open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and voters required to show an accepted photo ID at their assigned polling place. The marquee race is for governor: term-limited Kay Ivey is not running, and Republican nominee Tommy Tuberville faces Democratic nominee and former U.S. Sen. Doug Jones; Tuberville vacated his U.S. Senate seat to run. Voters also chose a U.S. senator, all seven U.S. House seats, all 35 state Senate and 105 state House seats, and decided four state constitutional amendments. Montgomery County Probate Judge J.C. Love III, the county's chief election official, urged residents to vote and keep holding officials accountable. The Secretary of State's office reminded voters that Alabama's new digital driver's license cannot be used as photo ID for voting; voters without valid ID may still vote if two election officials confirm their identity and they sign an affidavit. The nonpartisan Rollin to the Polls program continued offering free rides in several central counties. Election-night figures are unofficial: counties must announce results by noon on November 13, and statewide certification is due November 25.
