Tuesday, November 3, 2026 · States · GSM News

North Carolina polls were open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on November 3, with voters in line at 7:30 p.m. still able to vote. The nationally watched Senate race pitted former Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper against Republican Michael Whatley for the seat vacated by Sen. Thom Tillis, who is not seeking re-election; Libertarian Shannon Bray and Green Party candidate Michael Dublin were also on the ballot. In the western mountains, the 11th Congressional District chose a new representative, Democrat Jamie Ager against Republican Jennifer Balkcom, after Republican Rep. Chuck Edwards abandoned his re-election bid in August. In Asheville, Mayor Esther Manheimer faced Councilmember Kim Roney, with three council seats also up; Buncombe County voters chose commissioners and a sheriff and decided $70 million in housing and open-space bonds. Statewide, voters decided three constitutional amendments and a state Supreme Court seat, with Democratic Justice Anita Earls facing Republican Sarah Stevens, and the full Legislature was also on the ballot. Early voting ended October 31, and State Board of Elections figures showed close to 2.5 million voters had already cast ballots by October 30. Election Day voters had to use their assigned precincts and could view sample ballots through the board's voter search tool.
