Delaware Election Day: Nearly 149,000 Early Ballots, Almost Double the 2022 Midterm Pace

Delaware polls were open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on November 3, and voters had to cast ballots at their assigned polling places; absentee ballots could not be dropped at polling places and had to reach county election offices by 8 p.m. At Sunnyside Elementary School in Smyrna, 29 voters were already in line when polls opened, and many leaving voters named inflation as their top issue. The ballot included a U.S. senator, a U.S. representative, attorney general, treasurer and auditor, plus 11 state Senate seats and all 41 state House seats. Democratic Sen. Chris Coons faced Republican Mike Katz, and Democratic Rep. Sarah McBride faced Republican Joseph Arminio. Department of Elections figures showed 148,736 people had voted early as of about 10:30 a.m. on November 2, including 129,584 in-person early ballots and 19,152 absentee ballots, roughly 18% of registered voters and nearly double the 2022 midterm share. By county, Sussex totaled 66,456 early and absentee ballots, New Castle 59,170 and Kent 23,112. Voters with problems could call the voter hotline at (302) 739-4277.
