Follow-up: Seven European Flights Hit by Bomb Threats on the Same Day: All Land Safely With No Explosives Found, as a Cruise Ship in Greece Is Also Searched

At least seven passenger flights across Europe received bomb threats on the same day, Tuesday, November 3, on routes to Warsaw in Poland, Sofia in Bulgaria, Rome in Italy and Murcia in Spain, Reuters reported. All landed safely, searches found no explosive devices and no one was injured. A cruise ship on the Greek island of Syros was searched the same day over a bomb claim. It was the second wave of such threats in two days, after a Wizz Air flight was diverted to Budapest over a bomb threat on November 2.
Poland saw the most visible disruption. A LOT Polish Airlines Boeing 737 MAX flying from London Heathrow to Warsaw Chopin Airport with 181 people on board received a warning at 8:54 a.m. GMT and was diverted to nearby Modlin Airport, which briefly suspended operations. A Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) flight from Copenhagen landed as scheduled at Chopin Airport while one runway stayed closed for the search.
In Italy, two Italian Air Force Eurofighter jets from Grosseto air base escorted a Ryanair flight from Dublin to Rome Fiumicino, which landed at about 10:30 a.m.; another Ryanair flight from Lisbon to Rome was also threatened. In Spain, a Ryanair flight from Manchester triggered an emergency protocol run by airport operator Aena at Murcia. Bulgaria's transport ministry said two flights bound for Sofia — a Wizz Air service from Milan Bergamo carrying 176 passengers and a Ryanair flight from Dublin carrying 186 — also received threats, landed safely and were searched, with no explosives found.
The same day, the Panama-flagged cruise ship Crown Iris, operated by the Israeli company Mano Maritime, was searched at Syros by an explosives-detection dog and a diver after an unknown person claimed a device had been attached to its hull; the ship was due to sail to Haifa, Israel.
No group has claimed responsibility, officials have not blamed anyone, and it has not been established whether the threats were linked. The BBC reported that authorities in several countries would cooperate to assess whether the alerts were a coordinated attempt to disrupt European airspace. Four of the seven threatened flights were operated by Ryanair.
