PROVIDENCE, Rhode Island — The Associated Press has called the Providence mayor's race for David Morales, the 28-year-old Democratic Socialist, who will become the youngest mayor in Providence history. According to The Providence Journal, the Associated Press called the race for Morales before 9:00 p.m. Eastern Time on Tuesday, November 3, with Morales holding 81% of the vote and 90% of precincts reporting.

The other major candidate in the race was Republican David Talan, described by The Providence Journal as the underdog. Morales had won the Democratic nomination in the primary by defeating incumbent Mayor Brett Smiley. An election-night call by the Associated Press is a media determination based on reported returns, not an official certification; the final result follows the completed count and official certification.
