U.S. Rep. Judy Chu, who represents the San Gabriel Valley in Los Angeles County, California, won reelection in the November 3 midterm election. The Associated Press called California's 28th Congressional District for Chu on election night. According to semi-official results from the California Secretary of State, with all 391 precincts reporting, Chu received 121,906 votes (68.4%), while Republican challenger April A. Verlato received 56,394 votes (31.6%). Mail ballots are still being counted, and results remain subject to official certification.

The 28th District covers the San Gabriel Valley foothill communities, including Pasadena, Monterey Park, Arcadia, San Gabriel, San Marino and Alhambra. It lies mainly in Los Angeles County, with a small portion in San Bernardino County, and is home to one of the largest Chinese American communities in Southern California.

Chu first entered Congress through a 2009 special election, becoming the first Chinese American woman elected to Congress, and has been reelected ever since. She previously served on the Monterey Park City Council and as the city's mayor, in the California State Assembly, and on the California State Board of Equalization, and she long chaired the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus. The victory gives her a tenth term in the House, beginning January 3, 2027, with the 120th Congress.

Verlato, an attorney, is a former Arcadia city council member and mayor. The two faced each other in the same district in 2024, when Chu won with about 65% of the vote; in this year's June primary, Chu finished first with 62.2%.

Chu's district was hit hard by the Eaton Fire in January 2025, which destroyed more than 9,000 buildings in and around Altadena and Pasadena, and she has spent the past two years pressing for federal recovery funding and aid for affected residents and small businesses. With Democrats retaking the House majority in this midterm election, Chu will begin her new term in a Democratic-led House.
