U.S. Job Openings Little Changed at 7.5 Million in September: Quits Rise to 3.4 Million
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released its Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey (JOLTS) report on November 3, showing that the number of job openings was little changed at 7.5 million in September 2026.
Hires and total separations were also little changed, at 5.4 million and 5.3 million, respectively. Within separations, quits increased to 3.4 million, while layoffs and discharges were little changed at 1.6 million.
The JOLTS report is a closely watched monthly gauge of labor market demand and worker confidence. The full September release is posted on the BLS website.
