LASD Task Force Makes 22 Arrests in 'Bay to LA' Street Takeover Enforcement: 7 Vehicles Impounded for 30 Days

Los Angeles County, California — The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department (LASD) Information Bureau said in an advisory on November 3 that the department's Street Takeover Task Force conducted several street takeover enforcement operations over the past weekend.
A large group of individuals traveled from Northern California to Los Angeles County to participate in illegal street takeovers in what they called 'Bay to LA,' the department said. Enforcement operations took place in the cities of Carson, Compton, Lynwood, Commerce and Lakewood, and in the unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County.
A total of 22 arrests were made for offenses including felony conspiracy to commit reckless driving, reckless driving, exhibition of speed, driving with a suspended license, felony evading a peace officer, and felony possession of illegal firearms. Seven vehicles were impounded for 30 days, 74 citations were issued, and 22 vehicles were cited for offenses requiring a state referee inspection.
The department said its team is conducting follow-up investigations to hold those who participated accountable and to combat illegal street racing and street takeovers within Los Angeles County. Street takeovers, sideshows and street racing are maliciously reckless events that endanger lives and will not be tolerated anywhere within the county, the advisory said.
Using a vehicle to block a public street while others perform illegal exhibitions of speed is aiding and abetting and will cause the vehicle to be impounded for 30 days, and the driver could also be charged with a criminal offense, the department said. A conviction for reckless driving or exhibition of speed will result in large fines, community service, and two points from the California Department of Motor Vehicles, which will significantly increase insurance rates.
Anyone with information regarding illegal street racing or street takeovers is asked to contact their local law enforcement agency, or to provide information anonymously through Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS (8477).
