Lake Cahuilla Veterans Regional Park Modernization Completed as County Clears Final $497,426 Payment

Wednesday, November 4, 2026 · California · GSM News

The Riverside County Board of Supervisors in California voted 4-0 on November 3, with Supervisor Yxstian Gutierrez absent, to authorize a final payment of $497,426 to contractor KYA Services, formally recognizing that all work on the Lake Cahuilla Veterans Regional Park Modernization Project near La Quinta is complete.

The renovations, which recently wrapped up, cost a total of $8.9 million, drawn entirely from remaining 2021 American Rescue Plan Act funds provided to the county under a federal relief package. Construction began in December 2024. KYA Services is based in Santa Ana.

According to earlier project documents from the Riverside County Regional Park and Open-Space District, the modernization renovated existing restrooms, added a new pickleball court, provided updated shade structures and additional seating, restored the pool, upgraded landscaping, and improved campground areas, playground areas and day-use amenities while maintaining access to the park.

Lake Cahuilla Veterans Regional Park, operated by the county's Regional Park and Open-Space District, is a popular desert destination for camping, fishing and outdoor recreation. The board's approval of the final payment, taken without comment, closes out the nearly two-year, federally funded modernization project.
