The India Meteorological Department (IMD), in its special tropical weather outlook dated November 4, reported that the remnant of Severe Cyclonic Storm Murasu had weakened into a depression over east Telangana and adjoining coastal Andhra Pradesh. The system will continue to weaken and its area of influence will narrow.

Murasu made landfall near Ongole in Andhra Pradesh early on November 3 with sustained winds of 100 to 110 kmph gusting to 120 kmph, as GSM reported that day. After landfall, heavy rain lashed the south coastal districts, with about 198 mm recorded around Naguluppalapadu in Prakasam district, and initial reports of waterlogging and damage emerged. Preliminary reports from Andhra Pradesh authorities on November 3 indicated no casualties so far, with about 30,000 people evacuated to safety.

The IMD had forecast that Murasu would move north-northwest after landfall and weaken step by step, from a severe cyclonic storm to a cyclonic storm and then to a deep depression and a depression. Fishermen had been advised not to venture along and off the Andhra Pradesh coast until the afternoon of November 4, and low-lying coastal areas had faced a storm surge threat of 1 to 1.5 metres above astronomical tide.
