Brad's Kale Chips Recalled in Specific Lots: About 25,000 Bags May Contain Thallium, FDA Notice Says Discard Them

Snack Right Super Foods, Inc., doing business as Brad's Raw Chips and based in Coral Gables, Florida, is recalling specific lots of its Brad's Crunchy Kale and Brad's Veggie Chips Kale because the products may contain thallium. The company announced the recall on November 2, and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) posted the notice on November 3.

About 25,000 bags are estimated to be in commerce. They were distributed nationwide between October and December 2025 through KeHE Distributors and United Natural Foods, Inc. (UNFI), and sold directly to five individual consumers.

The recall follows an investigation by the California Department of Public Health, which began after an inquiry from one individual with elevated thallium levels. The department collected samples at retail stores in the Sacramento area, and laboratory testing found elevated thallium levels in multiple varieties. The recall was initiated after the FDA advised the firm of the results.

The company said its manufacturing process did not introduce the contaminant: kale takes up elements from the soil, and the dehydration process removes approximately 85 to 90 percent of the product's water, concentrating elements already present in the fresh kale.

The recalled products are identified by the lot number and best-by date printed on the bag. For Brad's Crunchy Kale, Original, in the 2-ounce bag (UPC 813104021679), the lots are 33525-1, 33525-2 and 33525-3 (best by February 1, 2027), 34525-1 (February 11, 2027) and 35125-2 (February 17, 2027). Brad's Veggie Chips Kale, in the 3-ounce bag, is likewise limited to specific lots, with best-by dates running from January 28 to February 17, 2027. The full lot list is in the FDA recall notice.

The notice does not report confirmed illnesses.

Consumers should stop eating the recalled products immediately and discard them. The products should not be returned to the place of purchase, and refunds are not being offered. Questions can go to [email protected].
