Iowa Woman Arrested in September Fatal Crash, Charged With Homicide by Intoxicated Driving; Bail Set at $37,000

The Polk County Sheriff's Office on November 4 arrested Deanna May, 55, of Des Moines, Iowa, charging her with driving intoxicated in a three-vehicle crash on September 30 near Bondurant that killed one person. The crash, at the intersection of Northeast 56th Street and Northeast 94th Avenue, killed Linda Fristoe of Marshalltown and injured three others.
The sheriff's office said investigators determined May was at fault; her blood alcohol concentration was 0.239, and investigators found alcohol bottles in her vehicle. May faces one count of homicide by vehicle - operating under the influence, a Class B felony - two counts of serious injury by vehicle, one count of second-offense OWI, and a misdemeanor stop-sign charge. She is held in the Polk County Jail on $37,000 bail, and no court date had been set as of the afternoon of November 4.
The same intersection was the scene of a fatal crash on May 3, 2026, in which Samantha Moore, 19, of Ankeny was killed. Polk County is conducting a full safety study of the intersection.
