American TCM Acupuncture Society's 2026 Annual Meeting Closes in New York as Acupuncture Moves Beyond the Chinese Community

The American TCM Acupuncture Society (ATCMS) has concluded its 2026 annual meeting and in-person mentorship-program gathering in New York, reviewing acupuncture's development in the United States from the perspective of traditional medicine's internationalization and cross-cultural dialogue. According to a report published on November 4, acupuncture is no longer a niche choice confined to Chinese communities in the U.S.: data show that one in ten American adults has received acupuncture treatment.
The meeting focused on how traditional Chinese medicine and acupuncture converse across cultural boundaries. Experts discussed topics including modern scientific interpretations of meridian origins and neural reflexes, as well as pain conditions, advanced-age fertility, gynecological and psychosomatic care, distinctive needling techniques, pediatric dermatology and emergency care. The in-person mentorship sessions also gave students direct access to their mentors. The organizers said acupuncture, as an important part of traditional medicine, is gaining wider recognition in the U.S. health care system and everyday wellness, and that in some clinical settings Western physicians now proactively recommend Chinese medicine to patients.
