Rapid City School District's $107 Million Bond Passes With 67.7% Support

Voters in South Dakota's Rapid City Area Schools district on November 3 approved the district's $107 million bond issue with 67.7 percent of the vote, above the 60 percent threshold required. Final unofficial results released November 4 showed 21,316 votes in favor and 10,191 against, with all 47 precincts in the district reporting.
The bond will fund infrastructure and campus needs in the district, including HVAC upgrades, safety and security upgrades, school additions and renovations, and a new elementary school at the Parkview property. On election night, district supporters gathered at the Rushmore Hotel to watch returns as the measure passed by a clear margin, becoming one of the most closely watched local questions of the night. Unofficial results also showed statewide turnout of 49.4 percent and Pennington County turnout of 43.28 percent, with all 671 precincts reporting.
South Dakota law requires school bonds to win at least 60 percent of the vote; the 67.7 percent support cleared the threshold by nearly eight points. The results remain unofficial until canvassing and certification at the county and state levels. The district said it will proceed with the planned construction projects and keep the community updated.
