St. Xavier Edges Ryle on Penalties to Reach Kentucky Boys' Soccer State Final

In a KHSAA boys' soccer state semifinal on November 4 at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in Lexington, Kentucky, Louisville's St. Xavier outlasted Union's Ryle through regulation, two overtimes and a shootout, winning 2-1 overall and 3-1 on penalties to reach the November 7 state final.
St. Xavier scored inside the first two minutes on a long-range strike by Logan Seales. Ryle equalized at 27:23 of the first half when Chase McCarthy converted a penalty kick. Neither side scored again, and in the shootout St. Xavier goalkeeper T.C. Kron saved Ryle's final attempt to seal the win - redemption for Kron, who had conceded the first-half penalty and been shown a yellow card for the foul.
St. Xavier, 23-0-1 and ranked No. 1 in the state, will chase its 18th state championship. Ryle finishes 23-3-1. St. Xavier will face the winner of the other semifinal, between Dunbar and Bardstown, in the final.
