GM Recalls 12,715 Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana Vans: Loose Steering Gear Nut May Cause Loss of Steering Control

Wednesday, November 4, 2026 · Shopping · GSM News

General Motors is recalling 12,715 Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana full-size vans from the 2025 and 2026 model years, according to a recall report filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The vans may have a steering gear assembly with a nut that was not properly tightened; a loose nut that separates from the steering gear assembly while driving can cause a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.

By model and year, the recall covers 5,434 of the 2025 Chevrolet Express, 3,259 of the 2026 Chevrolet Express, 3,568 of the 2025 GMC Savana and 454 of the 2026 GMC Savana. The Express and Savana are built at GM's Wentzville, Missouri, plant and are widely used as cargo and passenger vans. GM estimates that only about 1 percent of the recalled vehicles are actually affected by the loose nut, and as of October 8 GM was not aware of any injuries related to this recall.

Dealers will inspect the steering gear serial number and replace the steering gear assembly if necessary, free of charge. GM's number for this recall is N262579350. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC customer service at 1-888-988-7267, or check their vehicle identification number (VIN) in the NHTSA recall lookup.

The steering recall was disclosed together with a second GM recall: 67,380 Cadillac Lyriq, Vistiq and Celestiq and Chevrolet Blazer EV vehicles recalled over a brake system control module software defect (NHTSA campaign 26V-717). The two recalls total 80,095 vehicles. (Source: National Highway Traffic Safety Administration)
