Veterans Day on Wednesday, November 11: Post Offices and Federal Offices Close, Stock Markets Stay Open

Wednesday, November 4, 2026 · Shopping · GSM News

Veterans Day in 2026 falls on Wednesday, November 11, one week from today. The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) lists the day on its 2026 federal holiday schedule as one of the year's 11 federal holidays: federal government offices will be closed, and in-person federal business moves to the next business day.

For mail, the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) includes November 11 in its 2026 postal holidays: post office retail locations will be closed, with no regular mail delivery or pickup, and normal service resumes on Thursday, November 12.

For banking, the Federal Reserve Banks will be closed, and many bank branches that follow the Federal Reserve holiday schedule will close as well, with each bank setting its own hours. In the bond market, the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association (SIFMA) has recommended a full close for U.S. dollar fixed-income trading on November 11. Stock markets stay open: the New York Stock Exchange's published 2026 holiday list does not include Veterans Day, and both the NYSE and Nasdaq trade on their regular schedule.

State and local governments and schools decide their own closures, as the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) notes, so local arrangements vary. Veterans Day is the federal holiday honoring all who have served honorably in the U.S. armed forces, in wartime or peacetime; parades and observances are held across the country that day, including the New York City Veterans Day Parade on Fifth Avenue.
