Follow-Up: Security Alert at Israel's President's Residence on First Day of Coalition Consultations: Foreign Journalist Flagged for Suspicious Substance Traces, Entry Briefly Halted

Israeli President Isaac Herzog began a round of coalition consultations at the President's Residence in Jerusalem on November 4, and as the round began an unusual security incident occurred: during a security screening of a foreign journalist entering the residence, traces of a suspicious substance were detected, entry to the residence was briefly halted, and police bomb disposal experts were dispatched to the scene.
The President's Residence said in a statement that the X-ray machine alerted during the security check of those entering, that entry had been halted pending clarification of the matter, that police bomb technicians were on their way to examine the equipment, and that the matter was being investigated with the relevant authorities. Israeli media reported that the journalist was stopped by security personnel, prevented from entering and taken for questioning to determine the nature of the material. Once the police investigation concluded, access to the President's Residence was restored to normal and the consultations continued.
The Shas and Religious Zionist factions that came to the residence that day both recommended that Likud chairman Benjamin Netanyahu be tasked with forming the next government. GSM reported earlier the same day that Herzog had formally received the election results and would hold consultations with each faction in turn from November 4.
