Los Angeles City Attorney: Roy Leads McKinney by 66.53% to 33.47%, Poised to Become the City's Second Woman in the Office; Two Council Races Remain Close

LOS ANGELES, California — Updated returns released by the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder on the afternoon of November 4 showed Marissa Roy leading John McKinney in the Los Angeles city attorney race with 488,064 votes, or 66.53%, to McKinney's 245,511 votes, or 33.47%, a margin of 242,553 votes. Roy, a California deputy attorney general, would become the city's second woman to hold the office if the lead holds, succeeding Hydee Feldstein-Soto, who was elected in 2022 and was knocked out in the June primary; McKinney is a Los Angeles County deputy district attorney. Counting continues and the result is not yet certified.
Meanwhile, two open Los Angeles City Council seats remain too close to call. In District 3, businessman Tim Gaspar led Barri Worth Girvan by 26,322 votes, or 50.28%, to 26,028 votes, or 49.72%, a gap of only 294 votes. In District 9, Jose Ugarte's lead over Estuardo Mazariegos had narrowed to 1,898 votes. Both are open seats: District 3 succeeds Bob Blumenfield and District 9 succeeds Curren Price, both termed out. The Registrar-Recorder said an estimated 842,000 ballots from Tuesday's election remain to be tallied countywide, so both council outcomes could still change.
