Wednesday, November 4, 2026 · California · GSM News

The California Natural Resources Agency, based in Sacramento, announced on November 4 that it will host a Secretary Speaker Series discussion, "Science Under Pressure: What's at Stake for California?", on Monday, November 9 from noon to 1 p.m. The session will explore the latest findings from California's Fifth Climate Change Assessment and evolving El Niño conditions, and discuss how federal funding cuts are threatening critical research and how California is stepping up to advance climate science.

Speakers include Secretary Wade Crowfoot, science advisor Andrew Jones, Union of Concerned Scientists Western States Program Director Ranyee Chiang, Elea Becker Lowe of the Governor's Office of Land Use and Climate Innovation, a coordinating lead author of the Fifth Climate Change Assessment, and F. Martin (Marty) Ralph, a research meteorologist at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography and director of the Center for Western Weather and Water Extremes.

The agency said California relies on science to protect communities, safeguard water supplies and prepare for new risks, and registration is open to the public. Its mission is to help all Californians and nature thrive together.
