DES MOINES, Iowa — Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds issued a statement on the midterm election results on November 4, confirming that voters elected Democrat Rob Sand as Iowa's next governor. She said she spoke with Sand that morning to offer her congratulations and expressed her personal commitment to a strong transition. The Associated Press had previously called the November 3 gubernatorial race for Sand.

"Iowans exercised their right to vote yesterday, electing Rob Sand as Iowa's next governor," Reynolds said in the statement. "I spoke with him this morning to offer my congratulations and express my personal commitment to a strong transition. Now that the election is over, it's time to work together so Iowa remains the best state in the nation to live, work, and raise a family for generations to come."

"My team and I will do our part to ensure the incoming administration is ready for their first day in office. Iowans deserve nothing less," she added. Reynolds, a Republican, has served as governor of Iowa since 2017; Sand previously served as Iowa's state auditor. The statement was released by the Office of the Governor on November 4; the lieutenant governor is Chris Cournoyer.
