Former Kentucky Police Officer Swope Faces Four Additional Felony Counts Over Child Sex Abuse Material

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman announced on November 4 that Justin Swope, a former detective sergeant with the Murray Police Department, is facing additional felony charges related to the possession and distribution of child sex abuse material.
Swope, 44, was arraigned in Calloway Circuit Court on two counts of Distribution of Matter Portraying Sexual Performance By a Minor, Victim Under 18 (Class C Felony) and two counts of Possession of Matter Portraying Sexual Performance By a Minor, Victim Under 18 (Class D Felony). A judge set his bond at $250,000.
According to the indictment, Swope had videos of an unknown adult male engaging in sexual activity with a female child between the ages of 12 and 14 years old.
Earlier this year, a Calloway County Grand Jury indicted Swope on felony charges related to sexually abusing a minor child. According to that indictment, the abuse began in 2018 when the victim was just 15 years old and continued through 2021. During that time, Swope was employed with the Murray Police Department.
The Kentucky State Police investigated the case, and Assistant Attorney General Richie Kemp presented the case on behalf of the Commonwealth. The Attorney General's Office said the Kentucky Supreme Court's rule on trial publicity limits the information it can provide publicly. The charges in an indictment are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
