Tejano Star Bobby Pulido Wins Texas's 15th Congressional District, Defeating Incumbent Monica De La Cruz

Democrat Bobby Pulido, a Tejano music star making his first run for public office, won Texas's 15th Congressional District on November 3, defeating two-term Republican U.S. Rep. Monica De La Cruz and flipping a seat Republicans had held since 2022, according to Associated Press results. The AP declared Pulido the winner at 12:37 a.m. EST on November 4.
With about 99% of precincts reporting, the AP count showed Pulido with 126,204 votes to De La Cruz's 76,305, roughly 62% to 38%. De La Cruz conceded at about 10:10 p.m. on election night. Results remain unofficial pending certification.
Pulido, 53, is a Latin Grammy-winning singer whose career in the Rio Grande Valley spans three decades. The majority-Hispanic 15th District stretches from the Rio Grande Valley north through rural communities east of San Antonio and was substantially redrawn ahead of the 2026 election; President Donald Trump carried it by about 18 percentage points in 2024. Pulido campaigned on affordability and health care.
De La Cruz first won the district in 2022, becoming the first Republican Latina Texas voters sent to the U.S. House. Pulido is expected to be sworn in when the new Congress convenes on January 3, 2027.
