Helicopter Crashes Into Biscayne Bay Near Miami, Florida: One Dead, Two Injured

A Robinson R44 II helicopter crashed into Biscayne Bay near Miami, Florida, on the morning of November 4, killing one of the three people on board and injuring the other two. The U.S. Coast Guard's Southeast district said it and partner agencies responded near Key Biscayne at about 11:30 a.m. Eastern Time, confirming one person deceased and two others transported by emergency medical services to a higher level of care.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said crews responded at about 11:26 a.m. near Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park. The two injured adults were treated as trauma-alert patients and taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital; Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz said they were in critical but stable condition. The identities of those on board have not been released. According to preliminary information from the National Transportation Safety Board, the helicopter was on a photography flight and had taken off shortly before 11 a.m. from North Perry Airport in Pembroke Pines.
The Federal Aviation Administration said the helicopter went down in the water east of Miami Executive Airport. The NTSB is investigating, as are the FAA and the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office; the cause of the crash has not been released.
It was the second fatal aviation accident in South Florida in less than a week. On November 1, a Learjet 60 business jet crashed near Greenacres in Palm Beach County, Florida, killing all nine people on board; that investigation is continuing.
