Whoopi Goldberg Faux-Faints on 'The View' Table as Joy Behar's Car Story Draws Laughs

Wednesday, November 4, 2026 · Society · GSM News

During the Hot Topics segment of ABC's The View on Tuesday, November 3, co-host Whoopi Goldberg slowly lowered her head onto the roundtable and lay face down for several seconds as the studio audience laughed. According to Entertainment Weekly and OK Magazine, it was not a medical episode but Goldberg's long-running signature faux-faint routine on the show. The program's official X account, @TheView, posted a clip of the segment the same day, and the moment spread across social media.

The discussion stemmed from a Wall Street Journal report on parents taking a different approach to underage drinking and similar activities at home. Co-host Sara Haines joked, "You're more of a backseat girl, Joy," and Joy Behar, 84, replied that when she was doing it in a car, "they didn't have bucket seats, they had just a seat," adding, "Those bucket seats ruined it for everybody." As the audience chuckled, Goldberg, 70, slowly flopped her head onto the Hot Topics table and kept her face down while the conversation continued around her, a wide shot showed.

Entertainment Weekly calls Goldberg the show's resident faux fainter and noted she had not collapsed on the program in months. Over the years she has repeatedly thrown herself around the set to feign unconsciousness in reaction to topics including the divorce of Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez, issues related to President Donald Trump and discussion of the Real Housewives franchise; in 2025 she also stood up and later collapsed during a conversation about Sean "Diddy" Combs. OK Magazine likewise noted that pretending to collapse on the table during Hot Topics is her yearslong way of showing shock at a subject.

The View airs weekdays on ABC, and Goldberg has moderated the show since 2007. Neither report mentioned any medical condition, and no staff were seen assisting her; both described the moment consistently as a comedic performance rather than an actual faint or health emergency.
