San Diego Clairemont DMV Office Closes Temporarily Over Water Leak: Shut From 5 P.M. Nov. 3 Until Further Notice

Thursday, November 5, 2026 · Cities · GSM News

The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) announced on November 3 that its San Diego Clairemont office, at 4375 Derrick Drive in the City of San Diego, San Diego County, will temporarily close to the public starting at 5 p.m. on November 3 until further notice, due to damage from a water leak. The office will undergo water remediation, and customers are being redirected to nearby DMV offices.

The department said the health and safety of team members and customers is its top priority and apologized for any inconvenience the closure may cause.

Until the issue is resolved, customers can visit other DMV locations during regular business hours: the San Diego office at 3960 Normal Street (8 miles from Clairemont), Chula Vista at 30 N. Glover Avenue (16 miles), Poway at 13461 Community Road (17 miles), and El Cajon at 1450 Graves Avenue (18 miles).

The DMV also noted that most tasks do not require an office visit, including eligible driver's license and vehicle registration renewals, which can be completed online. The Service Advisor tool on the DMV website explains the options for each task, and customers can sign up for paperless renewal notices with an online account.
