Free Sandbag Events Start Nov. 7 at 11 Locations: 25 Pre-Filled Bags per Resident for El Niño Season

Thursday, November 5, 2026 · California · GSM News

The County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) in California announced on November 3 that it will hold free community sandbag distribution events at 11 locations across the county from November 7 to 28, as El Niño raises the likelihood of heavy rain and back-to-back storms this winter. Residents may collect up to 25 free pre-filled sandbags per household, with a drive-up option available at some sites.

The first events are on Saturday, November 7: Fire Station 58 at 5757 South Fairfax Avenue in Los Angeles, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., and Fire Station 89 at 29575 Canwood Street in Agoura Hills, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Three events follow on Saturday, November 14: Fire Station 87 at 140 South Second Avenue in Bassett, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Fire Station 129 at 42110 6th Street West in Lancaster, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and Rancho Palos Verdes City Hall at 30940 Hawthorne Boulevard, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Four events are set for Saturday, November 21: Fire Station 1 at 1100 North Eastern Avenue in Los Angeles, Fire Station 39 at 7000 Garfield Avenue in Bell Gardens, and Fire Station 47 at 5946 North Kauffman Avenue in Temple City, each from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.; and Fire Station 64 at 164 South Walnut Avenue in San Dimas, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fire Station 96 at 10430 South Mills Avenue in Whittier will distribute bags on Monday, November 23, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., and the final event is Saturday, November 28 at Fire Station 188, 18-A Village Loop Road in Pomona, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

"Preparation begins before emergencies occur, and small steps go a long way in ensuring your family's safety," said Fire Chief Anthony C. Marrone. "Sandbags are highly effective, simple tools to help redirect flooding, mud, and debris flow away from your property."

The department also urged residents to sign up for alerts at ready.lacounty.gov, clean out gutters, downspouts and storm drains, check and repair roofs, make sure wipers, brakes and tires are in good condition, keep basic supplies on hand including for pets, and consider flood insurance early if they live in a higher flood-risk area.
