CNN's Abby Phillip Shares First Photo with Newborn: Watching Election Returns with Son Born October 27

CNN anchor Abby Phillip shared a memorable photo on X on November 4: cradling her newborn son at home while watching the midterm election returns on television. Her son, Maxwell Elias Richardson, was born at home with a midwife on October 27.
Phillip, 37, had announced the news on Instagram on November 3. She and her husband, Marcus Richardson, are also parents to a daughter, Naomi, making the baby their second child.
Phillip anchors CNN's NewsNight and is one of the network's signature faces on election nights. On maternity leave for this year's midterms, she missed her usual seat at the anchor desk — but joined the night in her own way, drawing warm messages from colleagues and viewers.
She thanked her care team and family in the post and said mother and baby are doing well. She is expected back at the anchor desk after her leave.
