Salvation Army Indiana Red Kettle Challenge: Bender Lumber Matches Cash Gifts Dollar for Dollar in Five Counties, Up to $11,600, on the Weekend After Thanksgiving

Thursday, November 5, 2026 · Nonprofit · GSM News

The Salvation Army's Indiana Division announced on its website that local company Bender Lumber is running its Red Kettle matching challenge for a sixth year: on Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving, November 28-29, cash dropped into any Red Kettle in Daviess, Greene, Lawrence, Morgan and Orange counties in Indiana will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $11,600 across the five counties, with the matched funds designated for 2026 programs.

Kettles stand outside more than a dozen retail locations, including Walmart and Kroger stores. A second match is planned in December. The Salvation Army says every dollar raised stays in Indiana to fund year-round programs such as food, shelter and family support.

Bender Lumber President Ben Watters and Billie Kay, the Indiana Division's Service Extension director, are asking residents to give cash at a kettle during the match weekend so each dollar becomes two. Bender Lumber, founded in Bloomington in 1931, is an Indiana lumber and building-materials company.

The Red Kettle campaign, dating to 1891, is The Salvation Army's best-known fundraiser; the season runs from before Thanksgiving through Christmas Eve and supplies a major share of many local units' annual service budgets.
