Oregon's Crook County Joins Operation Green Light: Green Lights for Veterans From November 4 to 11, With Residents and Businesses Invited to Take Part

Thursday, November 5, 2026 · Promotion · GSM News

The government of Crook County, Oregon, has issued a news release announcing the county is joining Operation Green Light, the nationwide tribute to veterans: from November 4 to 11, 2026, residents, businesses and organizations are invited to light buildings green and post on social media with the #OperationGreenLight hashtag to show support for veterans.

The campaign is led by the National Association of Counties (NACo) and the National Association of County Veteran Service Officers (NACVSO). It aims to make veterans visible and to remind them of the help available through county veteran service offices; green symbolizes hope, renewal and well-being.

County Commissioners Susan Hermreck and Seth Crawford voiced support in the release. Crawford said Crook County has one of the highest per-capita veteran populations in the country, and that lighting a building green is a simple gesture of thanks from the community.

Veterans who need assistance can contact Crook County Veteran Services at 422 NW Beaver Street in Prineville, which helps with federal and state veterans' benefit applications.

The campaign has spread across U.S. counties in recent years: according to a companion release from Macon-Bibb County, Georgia, 412 counties in 44 states took part in 2025, lighting city halls, fire stations and libraries green.
