FBI Arrests New York State Police Sergeant Calderon: Charged With Filming Girls Undressing and Possessing Thousands of Child Abuse Images

Thursday, November 5, 2026 · Justice · GSM News

New York — United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York Jamie McDonald, FBI Assistant Director in Charge James C. Barnacle, Jr., and New York State Police Superintendent Steven G. James announced on November 5 that a federal complaint had been unsealed charging New York State Police Sergeant Steven Calderon, 43, with sexual exploitation of children and possession of child pornography. Calderon was arrested by the FBI that day, presented before Chief U.S. Magistrate Judge Judith C. McCarthy in White Plains federal court, and ordered detained.

Calderon, of the Town of Crawford in Orange County, New York, became a state trooper in 2017 and has been a sergeant since about 2022. Prosecutors said he was first arrested on October 25 in Crawford and charged with second- and third-degree assault; state police then executed a search warrant at his residence and recovered various electronic surveillance equipment and storage devices.

According to the complaint, the devices contained thousands of sexually explicit images and videos of children, including prepubescent children, as well as numerous videos that appear to have been taken surreptitiously in a bathroom in Calderon's residence, showing at least four different girls undressing before showering. On about July 25, 2026, Calderon allegedly recorded a 10-year-old girl undressing and edited the recording into a short clip in which she appears to be engaging in sexually explicit conduct; on about February 3, 2023, he allegedly recorded a 9-year-old girl undressing and created a sexually explicit screenshot from the recording.

Calderon is charged with two counts of sexual exploitation of a child, each carrying a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years and a maximum of 30 years in prison, and one count of possession of child pornography, which carries a maximum of 20 years. Prosecutors emphasized that the complaint contains allegations only, and that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. (Source: U.S. Department of Justice)
