Carmelo Anthony and La La Anthony Reach Divorce Settlement Nine Years After Split, Judgment Pending Judge's Signature
Former NBA star Carmelo Anthony and actress La La Anthony have reached a settlement in their divorce. The two separated in 2017, and La La filed for divorce in 2021. According to New York County Supreme Court records reviewed by PEOPLE, a judgment of divorce was pending at the court as of November 4, awaiting a judge's signature; the terms of the settlement are confidential and have not been made public.
The case drew fresh attention on social media. An Instagram gallery by The Shade Room drew about 81,000 likes, and a source close to the situation told the outlet the divorce had been finalized and both parties had moved on. As PEOPLE's reading of the court records makes clear, however, a judge's signature is the final step that legally ends a marriage, and that step was still pending as of November 4; the "finalized" wording in social posts refers to the parties having reached a settlement.
Court documents obtained by E! News add procedural detail: on November 4, each of the two signed affidavits agreeing to the terms, and the documents list a certificate of dissolution. Because their son Kiyan is now 19 and had already turned 18, child support was no longer an issue in the case, though a "qualified medical child support order" is still listed as pending in the documents; such an order typically requires that a child be enrolled in a parent's health care plan.
The couple got engaged on Christmas Day 2004 and married in July 2010. They first split in April 2017, briefly reconciled in 2018, and were reported to be living apart again in 2019. La La filed for divorce in June 2021, citing irreconcilable differences. On the Call Her Daddy podcast in 2022, La La said that after Carmelo's 2011 trade from the Denver Nuggets to the New York Knicks, the constant media scrutiny of their life in New York made things complicated, and that was the start of the end of the marriage.
Carmelo Anthony, 42, is a 10-time NBA All-Star who announced his retirement in 2023. La La Anthony is an actress and television personality whose credits include the series Power. PEOPLE said it had reached out to representatives for both for comment, with no public response reported as of its story.
