Vermont Voters Pass Constitutional Amendments on Collective Bargaining and Equal Protection

Vermont voters approved two state constitutional amendments by wide margins on November 3. Proposal 3, guaranteeing employees the right to collective bargaining, passed with about 74 percent of the vote. Proposal 4, writing explicit equal protection into the state constitution, passed with about 79 percent.
The new equal-protection language prohibits discrimination based on sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression, as well as race, ethnicity, sex, religion, disability and national origin.
Both proposals had passed the legislature earlier this year, the Senate voting 29-0 and the House 128-14. Results are unofficial pending certification. (Source: Vermont Secretary of State)
